We left our motel in OK City early yesterday (Day 6 of our trip). It was cold and overcast. We got on the higway right away, still the I-40 West. The scenery wasn't super sexy. One straight road going through flat field after flat field. Cows. Trucks. Billboards advertising Indian trading posts. We left Oklahoma behind without taking a single picture. We were feeling a little low. Hours of driving on a straight highway on a gray day is no fun.
Then we entered Texas. The sun came out. It all got better. Acres and acres of prairie spread before our eyes.
Driving across Western Texas (the Panhandle) was simultaneously incredible and dull. Incredible because the Prairie is beautiful. Ranches, cows, horses, we even saw some whitetail deer! But also incredibly flat and monotonous. Turns out constant beauty makes me sleepy...
Then the Prairie ended and we entered New Mexico. We saw the Texas plateau disappear behind us and the New Mexican desert started, dry and scarce.
We arrived in Albuquerque after dark. End of Day 6.
